.KEY MESSAGES...
1. Dry weather will prevail through throughout the work week.
2. Wind Advisory for the Mojave Slopes from 2 PM this afternoon
through 11 PM Tuesday.
3. Temperatures will remain a few degrees above normal through
Tuesday then rise to well above normal Wednesday through Friday.
&&
.DISCUSSION...
An upper ridge extends from southern California northeast over
the Rockies this morning as an upper trough pushes inland over
the Pacific Northwest. Precipitation extends down to northern
California with dry conditions continuing across the central
California interior. The main impact from the trough will be
increasing winds across the Mojave Slopes this afternoon. The
probabilities for a maximum wind gust greater than 45 mph are
65% in Mojave today and 60% on Tuesday. A Wind Advisory is in
effect for the Mojave Slopes from 2 PM this afternoon through
11 PM Tuesday.
An upper ridge will build over the west coast on Wednesday then
amplify through Friday as it gradually shifts eastward over the
Rockies. Temperatures are forecast to be around 4 to 8 degrees
above climatological averages today then lower to around 2 to 5
degrees above average on Tuesday. The ridge brings much warmer
conditions the rest of the week with Thursday expected to be the
warmest. Highs are forecast to be around 10 to 15 degrees above
average on Thursday with Wednesday and Friday being around 8 to
12 degrees above average. The probabilities for a high greater
than 82 degrees in the San Joaquin Valley on Wednesday generally
range from 45 to 70 percent. The probability for a high greater
than 87 degrees Thursday generally ranges from 45 to 75 percent.
Model ensembles favor an eastern Pacific upper trough splitting
as it reaches the coast this weekend. The northern energy moves
over the Pacific Northwest as the southern energy forms a closed
upper low off the central/southern California coast. Dry weather
is forecast to continue at this time with temperatures lowering
to slightly above average. Winds will increase again and could
reach advisory level along the Mojave Slopes.
